We all witnessed the much hyped release of the Apple Watch. However Apple wants its latest gadget to be seen more than just that, Apple wants the watch to be viewed as a fashion accessory and Apple expected its watch to look so good that it even invited fashion editiors to the watch’s launch in September.
Now rumour has it that the watch will be on front page of China Vogue in November. Liu Wen who will be featured in the November issue will wear a limited edition 18 karat gold Apple Watch. This is a step in a whole new direction for Apple. Making an entry into the fashion world is none too easy. The future of technology lies in wearable products and therefore it is only right that Apple should make a foray into the fashion world but is this the right product to start with?
The editor-in-chief of China Vogue, Angelica Cheung was qouted saying the watches “combined technology, style, and functionality and were very modern”.
“Chinese people are actually very digitally minded and we embrace new technology and digital products more easily than perhaps people elsewhere, we are an ancient country but at the same time a very young country when it comes to fashion and new products. We love to embrace everything that is new, modern and positive, all these convince us that the intersection of fashion and technology is a natural progression, not something alien’, said Cheung.
It is prominent that Apple wants to position its product differently this time around. The base price for the watch starts at a stupendous $349 with it’s premium and limited edition models costing more. Do you think this pricing is justified? Would you rather pay for functionality that Apple offers over traditional watches?
Apple’s gadgets maybe making the front cover of international fashion magazines. But we know one person who definitely won’t be making it and that is their CEO Tim Cook. No one cared what you wore when you were the king of techy stuff but you’re now making an entry into a completely different world Mr.Cook.
Every time the Apple CEO gives a speech he’s dressed in an untucked barely ironed shirt. I know Mr. Cook is busy with innovating and has little time to care about what he wears but if you’re going to be the face of wearable fashion gadgets, shouldn’t you look the part? I think it’s time for a change.
The Apple Watch is all set to release in early 2015 and I for one definitely want to see the reaction it recieves. Do you have any insight on how this new tech gadget is going to change the world? Do let us know.
