The Wrong Turn Literally!

Mumbai based fashion photographer, Raj Shetye, has sparked outrage all over the country. His photoshoot project called The Wrong Turn hasn’t gone down too well with the masses, but who can blame them?

His work consists of a series of pictures, depicting a model warding of men in an empty bus. One cannot help but draw similarities between the photoshoot and the Nirbhaya rape case that took place in Delhi, 2012. A large number of people have taken to openly shaming the project on social media, calling it downright ‘horrific’, ‘disgusting’ and even ‘cold blooded’. Following the out cry, Raj Shetye has pulled down the pictures from his offical website (a little too late if you ask me).

The country is being openly condemed by the world media regarding the sheer number of rape cases and the lack of execution of security and laws for women empowerment. However, what others have considered as appalling, has apparently served as inspiration for one Mr. Shetye. There is art and then there is this. The pictures in my opinion are not in the least bit tasteful. One picture actually depicts two men pinning the model down on the bus seat! Some people will exploit anything for their narcissism. The photoshoot looks like the front cover of a glossy magazine, it glorifies rape instead of condemning it.

Is this what we want? Is this how we want others to see us? A fashion photoshoot depicting a rape scene! Makes you wonder what is wrong with the mindset of the people in our country, doesn’t it?
